Eden Hazard’s time at Real Madrid has been nothing short of a nightmare. The Belgian was one of the best players on the planet back at Chelsea and was able to establish himself as a Premier League legend during his seven years at Stamford Bridge. Since moving to Santiago Bernabeu though, he has had to struggle with one injury after another, and never been able to establish himself in Los Blancos’ starting XI.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Hazard has made just 72 appearances for Real Madrid till now, scoring 7 goals and providing 11 assists in the process.

That is not the kind of output that Real Madrid would have expected when they shattered their transfer record to sign Hazard from Chelsea. Right now, the Belgian finds himself as the last choice winger in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Thus, it might be the best step for both the club and the player to part ways. And a surprise Premier League club could potentially offer Hazard an escape route.

Hazard linked with surprise Premier League club amid struggles at Real Madrid

As reported by Defensa Central (via Caught Offside), new Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery, is considering making a move for Hazard in January.

It is safe to say that Aston Villa is not the type of team that you would expect Hazard to join. While a big club without a shadow of a doubt, they are in a terrible spot right now.

The club recently sacked Steven Gerrard, and find themselves sitting at 16th in the Premier League table, staring at a potential relegation battle.

It is also hard to believe that Aston Villa would be willing to match the wages that Hazard is receiving at Real Madrid right now. Thus, it feels unlikely that a move to Birmingham lies in the future of the Belgian national captain.
