Most Real Madrid fans will not have fond memories of Julen Lopetegui’s run as the manager of the club. Since his departure, the club have recovered though and are the European and Spanish champions once again. On the other hand, he himself did enjoy some success at Sevilla, but things went south recently.

Lopetegui was shown the exit door by Sevilla this season, after their poor start to the campaign. The former Real Madrid boss might not have to remain out of the game for long though. Wolverhampton Wanderers seem to be interested in hiring him as their next manager.

Wolves are believed to have already made a move for Lopetegui, which did not lead anywhere, but a second attempt is rumoured to have been received more positively and the club might be close to making the appointment.

If Lopetegui does arrive at Wolves, he might have a Real Madrid player in his sights as well. As reported by TEAMtalk, reports in Spain claim he’s already handed the club a list of targets and on top of that list is Mariano Diaz.

Lopetegui wants Wolves to make move for forgotten Real Madrid man

It is safe to say that Mariano does not have a role at Real Madrid right now. He has barely featured, having played only 14 minutes of football, even with Karim Benzema struggling with injury problems this season.

As a result, Real Madrid fans would not be too bothered if Wolves did make a move for Mariano in the near future.

In fact, it could be a positive for Real Madrid. Mariano’s contract runs out in the summer of 2023 and thus, he was expected to leave for free at the end of the campaign. But now, it is possible that they could get a transfer fee out of his exit, which nobody would have expected.
