The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer saga is well documented. The French World Cup winner was expected to join the Spanish giants when his deal with Paris Saint-Germain ran out. It was no secret that he was a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and Los Blancos while growing up, and it seemed a move destined to happen.
Except it did not. Instead, Mbappe signed a bumper new deal with PSG and remained in the French capital.
It goes without saying that that left a bitter taste in the mouths of a lot of Real Madrid fans who have not forgiven Mbappe for his decision and do not want the club to make an attempt to sign him in the future again. On the other hand, things have gone south for the Frenchman at PSG and rumours have suggested that he is already looking to find a way out of the club.
Former Barcelona star, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, believes that Mbappe made the wrong decision by staying at PSG. As reported by Marca, the Swedish legend told Canal Plus:
"“Mbappe, as a person I do not know him very well. As a player, he is fantastic.“But when you lose discipline you lose your identity.“There is a reason why Zidane is Zidane. Mbappe wants to imitate him? That he starts to want to progress. Not to be satisfied.“He made the right choice for Paris not for himself. Because he put himself in a situation where he is more important than the club. And the club gave him the keys for that.“But you are never bigger than a club.”"
Zlatan slams Mbappe’s decision to stay at PSG as he turned down Real Madrid chance
It was seen as a forgone conclusion by many that Mbappe would join Real Madrid this summer. In fact, he was even cheered at Santiago Bernabeu, when PSG played there last season.
Now, it is hard to see a move to Santiago Bernabeu happening, even if Mbappe does end up leaving PSG in the near future.
Firstly, Real Madrid might not want to make another attempt to sign the Frenchman, after how things turned out. Secondly, it is believed that the club’s relationship with PSG is not good and the French champions are not expected to let Mbappe move to Santiago Bernabeu.
Also, one has to question whether Real Madrid even need Mbappe anymore, considering the level Vinicius Jr is performing at.
