Carlo Ancelotti saw his Real Madrid team suffer their first La Liga defeat of the season, as they lost 3-2 away at Rayo Vallecano. The result also meant that they fell two points behind Barcelona in the league table. And one has to admit that the club’s form has taken a downturn in recent weeks, as they have lost two, drawn one and won only one of their previous four games across all competitions.

Real Madrid had made a blistering start to the campaign and were doing nothing but win games at one point of time, but now, it looks like the injuries and lack of depth is starting to take its toll on them. And that is a worry.

Perhaps the biggest problem has been the fitness problems of Karim Benzema, who has missed a large portion of the season till now. The club have no real back up option to him, and Ancelotti has had to convert Rodrygo into a forward in the absence of the Frenchman.

As reported by SPORT, Ancelotti has already transferred to Florentino Perez the need to advance the signing of a striker to try to compete for all the titles after the World Cup.

Ancelotti wants Real Madrid to sign a striker in January amidst Benzema’s fitness issues

While Benzema might be the current Ballon d’Or holder and is coming off of the best season of his career, the fact of the matter is that he is set to turn 35 years of age.

On the other hand, while Ancelotti has hyped up Rodrygo as a forward, it does not look like he is ready to take the goalscoring burden of the team in the absence of Benzema.

Thus, it would be the right decision for Real Madrid to go after a striker in January (as we have already discussed on this site). Now, it remains to be seen if they end up going after one in January or not.
