Real Madrid had a very good first half of the 2022/23 season, all things considered. They were able to top their Champions League group, but were ultimately handed a tough draw against Liverpool in the round of 16. On the other hand, they were almost perfect in La Liga, before a downturn in form towards the end. Even then, they go into the World Cup break, just two points behind Barcelona in the table.

In many ways, this break has come at the perfect time for Real Madrid. Injuries, fatigue and a general lack of depth in certain position had started to take a toll on their performances. This will give a chance to them to refresh and make a fresh start.

One would also be hoping that Real Madrid have recognised that they need to make a few additions in January, if they are to compete for all three titles in the second half of the season. Otherwise, this long campaign could have a negative effect on a number of their players and another downturn in form in the future would not come as a surprise.

One man who could particularly feel the effects is Vinicius Jr. Not only is the Brazilian playing constant football, and is expected to star for his national team at the World Cup, but he is on the end of a lot of rough tackles as well thanks to his style of play.

Real Madrid are worried that the superstar is being targeted by opponents

As reported by AS, Real Madrid are concerned about Vinicius being targeted by the opposition and his Neymar-like fame could lead to ‘much more violent entries’.

Vinicius is someone who is incredible when it comes to dribbling and that naturally leads to opponents fouling him, in order to stop him from advancing up the pitch.

Game after game of facing these tackles can have a negative impact on the long-term career of the Brazilian though. We have seen Neymar miss so many games over the years through injuries. On the other hand, we have also seen Eden Hazard struggle with fitness issues in his late 20s, after being on the receiving end of so many tackles over the years.
