Since 2009, nobody has lifted the Ballon d’Or other than a Real Madrid player or a certain Lionel Messi. This time around, it was the turn of Karim Benzema to add his name to the prestigious list, and the Frenchman definitely earned it. He had guided Los Blancos to the Champions League and the La Liga titles last season, almost on his own at times.

It was easily Benzema’s best season ever and he was the best player on the planet by quite some distance.

Benzema’s Ballon d’Or win was the culmination of a long journey in the Royal White jersey. For years, he had been one of the most underrated players on the team, and seen the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos and others get most of the plaudits. This year was his turn to be in the spotlight though.

While they might have been partners up top at Real Madrid for years, it looks like Ronaldo is yet to congratulate Benzema on his big win. As reported by Marca, the Frenchman simply said about the matter in an interview with Telefoot:

"“No, not yet.”"

Ronaldo is yet to congratulate the Real Madrid superstar on his Ballon d’Or win

It is safe to say that Ronaldo is one of the greatest players in Real Madrid history, if not the very greatest.

Yet, since leaving the club, his legacy at Real Madrid has been a confusing one. His name is not mentioned as frequently on the part of the club, as you would expect. On the other hand, Ronaldo is not one for throwback pictures and nostalgic tales, while he still continues to play at Manchester United.

It will be very interesting to see how things are when the Portuguese superstar is long retired from the game. As for Benzema, it is safe to say that a congratulatory message from Ronaldo would not make or break what he achieved last season.
