Real Madrid and Barcelona find themselves embroiled in a tight title race in La Liga. Earlier on in the campaign, it had looked like Carlo Ancelotti’s team was convincingly better, and they even went on to win the first El Clasico of the season by a 3-1 scoreline. Things have changed since then though. A bad run of form from Los Blancos has meant that Xavi’s side go into the World Cup break leading by two points.
It is not ideal for Real Madrid but at the same time, it is not a deficit that cannot be easily overturned. One can only hope that most of the players are able to remain fit, because that has been their big problem.
It is not just on the pitch that Real Madrid and Barcelona might be challenging each other though, but on the transfer market as well.
As reported by Marca, Real Madrid like Rafael Leao of AC Milan. On the other hand, as reported by El Nacional, Barcelona will follow Leao closely at the World Cup.
Real Madrid and Barcelona want to sign AC Milan superstar
It goes without saying that Leao is one of the most exciting talents in all of Europe right now and it would be considered as a major coup for any European club to sign him.
At the same time though, one has to point out that it will not be easy. It is believed that AC Milan would want a transfer fee higher than €100 million to part ways with the Portuguese superstar. Other than Barcelona and Real Madrid, Chelsea have been heavily linked with him as well while other clubs could be keeping an eye on the situation too.
There is no doubt that Leao is a fantastic talent, but it is hard to see where he fits into the current Real Madrid team. He plays his best football while playing off of a striker, but Los Blancos already have Vinicius Jr playing a similar role.
