This has been one of the most successful eras in Real Madrid history, producing five Champions League titles in nine seasons. Nobody could have seen this kind of domination coming, especially in the modern era of the game. A lot of credit lies at the feet of how well their squad has been constructed over the years.

A number of players who were involved in those triumphs, like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale, Casemiro and others, have moved on, while there are a few more who could be on their way out in the not too distant future. Time and tide wait for no one and a completely fresh cycle will be starting soon at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It is the job of the club though to make this transition in generations as smooth as possible and continue to enjoy success even during this period of time.

Two legends whose careers are in their twilights are Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. The Croatian is 37 years of age, while the German midfielder is believed to be already considering retirement despite being just 32 and on top of his game. Real Madrid might not be ready to see them walk out just yet though.

As reported by Marca, Real Madrid have the intention of renewing the contracts of both Modric and Kroos, so that the generational change is as sweet as possible and under their tutelage.

Modric has already talked about his intention to continue playing as long as he can still produce top level football, so it might not be the toughest thing to agree terms with the Croatian over a new deal.

It is the future of Kroos which is much more interesting though. The German is already retired from the national team and could be looking to hang up his boots for good in the near future, if rumours are accurate.
