Real Madrid have done a wonderful job in recent years of signing some of the most highly-rated young talents from South America and turning them into first-team stars at Santiago Bernabeu. The three perfect examples are Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde and Rodrygo, all of whom arrived in the Spanish capital as teenagers and now have spots in Los Blancos’ starting XI.

This is in direct contrast to Real Madrid’s transfer policy of the past, when they went out to sign some of the biggest names in the game.

It looks like this time around, they have an Argentine wonderkid in their sights in Velez Sarsfield’s Gianluca Prestianni. Unfortunately, it appears that Real Madrid will face competition for his signature from their biggest rivals.

As tweeted out by Laia Coll, Barcelona have been following Prestianni since the time of Ramon Planes. The Argentine will soon make the leap to Europe and has a clause of €15 million.

It goes without saying that €15 million is a significant transfer fee for a player who is only taking his first steps in the senior game and is yet to make much of an impact at the first-team level.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Prestianni has made 6 appearances for Velez Sarsfield till now, playing 121 minutes of football in total. He is yet to score but has an assist to his name.

It must be pointed out though that he is still just 16 years of age and has plenty of time on his hands to grow into the senior game. The left winger has been very highly rated while coming through the youth ranks and seems to have a bright future ahead of him.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona and Real Madrid end up competing with each other over his signature. Los Blancos’ recent record of developing youngsters into first-team stars might give them an edge though, if that turned out to be the case.
