Real Madrid broke their transfer record in order to sign Eden Hazard from Chelsea in the summer of 2019. Back then, it looked like the perfect move. The Belgian had already established himself as one of the best players in the world and a Premier League legend, during his seven years at Stamford Bridge.

Thus, not only could he fill the void of Cristiano Ronaldo in the team, who had left the previous summer for Juventus, but he could be the face of the club as well. He was the global superstar that Real Madrid needed at that point of time.

Unfortunately, things have been very rough for Hazard since joining Real Madrid. His time in the Spanish capital has been marked by one injury after another, which have caused him to lose his form as well as his place in the team.

Recently, some rumours have been doing the rounds that Hazard is open to leaving the club in January. But it looks like that is not the case after all. As reported by Marca, the Belgian said:

"“In January it is impossible, because I have family and I like the city. But in summer it is possible that I go. I have one more year on my contract and it’s the club’s decision. If the club tells me “Eden, thanks for four years, but you have to go”, I have to accept it because it’s normal.”"

Real Madrid star will not be leaving in January despite the recent rumours

Judging from his comments, it looks like Hazard is open to leaving Real Madrid next summer, but will not be leaving in the middle of the season, which is understandable.

It remains to be seen if he can revitalise his career at the World Cup in Qatar, where he will be captaining the Belgian national team and trying to help them to glory. In many ways, it feels like the last chance of the country’s golden generation to win some silverware.

Hazard’s time at Real Madrid might have been a nightmare but for the next month or so, his full focus will be on the national team and the World Cup trophy. Hopefully, he will be able to rediscover his true self at the tournament.
