Cristiano Ronaldo broke the internet with his recent interview. His comments have managed to divide the entire footballing world. The only thing that seems almost certain now is that the Real Madrid record goalscorer will not turn out for Manchester United again, and his career at Old Trafford is as good as over.

Ronaldo had found himself on the periphery of the squad this season in the first place, following the arrival of Erik ten Hag as manager. And even when he played, his performances left a lot to be desired.

Naturally, Ronaldo has had to face a lot of criticism this season. At the same time though, he had some blunt words for his current club, Manchester United, as well.

In his eyes, it looks like Manchester United have not progressed with the times like Real Madrid or Juventus, his previous two sides. As reported by CaughtOffside, Ronaldo said in his exclusive interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV:

"“Manchester Utd made zero progress. Real Madrid and Juventus followed recent technologies, infrastructures.“They always tried to progress even in terms of training, nutrition & how to recover from games. Man United is behind clubs like those.”"

Ronaldo compares Manchester United with Real Madrid and Juventus

Ronaldo completed a blockbuster return to Manchester United in the summer of 2021, the club where he first made a name for himself and became one of the best in the world.

It is safe to say that the fairy tale return has turned into a bit of a horror story over time. Manchester United took some big steps back despite the presence of Ronaldo in their squad last season and finished trophyless for the fifth straight campaign.

This time around, they seem to be moving in the right direction, but Ronaldo has been reduced to a squad player, who has often been left on the bench by Ten Hag.

Rumours suggested that Ronaldo wanted to leave the club in the summer itself but a move did not materialise. Following this recent interview though, it is hard to feel that he will be at Manchester United beyond the January transfer window and one fears that he might have tarnished his legacy in the eyes of their fans.

One could argue though that things have gone downhill for Ronaldo ever since he decided to leave Real Madrid for Juventus. While he did win trophies in Italy, the club were doing that even before his arrival. The big aim was surely to get past the final hurdle and win the Champions League. Instead, they regressed in Europe. And the Portuguese legend’s stint at Manchester United has not been the dream return he would have been hoping for. Perhaps he should have never left the Spanish capital.
