Not too long ago, Mauricio Pochettino was one of the most highly rated managers in the world and being linked with clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United. He had done a wonderful job at Tottenham Hotspur, even taking the London club to the Champions League final on one occasion and showing glimpses of being able to compete for the Premier League title.

It is safe to say that the Argentine’s reputation took a bit of a hit at Paris Saint-Germain though. He failed to get the best out of the trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and was unsurprisingly shown the exit door by the French giants.

Now, Pochettino finds himself without a job and it remains to be seen where he will end up next. It does not feel like offers will be coming from the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid any time soon though, following his underwhelming spell at PSG.

But Pochettino seems to believe that those chances could come once again down the line. As reported by Marca, the manager said:

"“Sometimes it’s just a matter of timing. I don’t believe in trains (chances) passing only once. I believe that sometimes you have to have the necessary patience and you have to know how to wait. It is true that my name has always been linked to big clubs. I have a lot of respect for the professionals and it’s hard for me to sell myself, that’s a job for you.”"

It does feel unlikely that Pochettino is going to get an absolutely top, top job next. He might have to build his career back up to that level once again, were a Real Madrid or a Manchester United come calling.

There is no doubt that he is still one of the top managers in the game though and should not have a tough time getting a call from a club that is competitive and at the Champions League-level.

Let’s see what the future holds for Pochettino. When it comes to Real Madrid, they have Carlo Ancelotti at the helm. And with the Italian having guided them to a Champions League and La Liga double last season against all odds and expectations, do not be surprised to see him in the Santiago Bernabeu hot seat for the foreseeable future.
