The Real Madrid star has struggled to remain fit for any consistent length of time for the past several months and missed several games leading up to the break.

Thus, it is a situation that has left Real Madrid thinking. Benzema might be the current Ballon d’Or holder but that will not count for much if he cannot even get onto the pitch. The club do not have any real cover option for him either, and Rodrygo was converted into a forward in the Frenchman’s absence.

At the same time, Leao’s contract with AC Milan is believed to run out in the summer of 2024 and he has not agreed a renewal, which might make him available for a bargain transfer fee in the future even though he is rated at above €100 million right now.
