Cristiano Ronaldo finds himself in the eye of a media storm right now. His interview with Piers Morgan might very well have ended his Manchester United career for good and it is hard to imagine him playing for the Red Devils again. Rumours have broken out about a blockbuster return to Real Madrid but that seems very unlikely.
At the end of the day, Ronaldo’s focus right now will be on the World Cup though, as he looks to guide Portugal to glory.
He comes into the tournament lacking in form and probably even confidence, having struggled to hit the back of the net this season for Manchester United. As a result, most fans are not expecting a lot from Ronaldo this time around.
But it would be a mistake for anybody to count Ronaldo out. Iker Casillas seems to be of the same belief as well. As reported by Marca, the Real Madrid legend said about his former teammate:
"“When people talk about Cris they forget what he has done. Come on, he doesn’t forget, because he knows what he’s done. But I would always like him on my team. Cristiano still has rope to play at the highest level.”"
Real Madrid legend backs Ronaldo in the World Cup despite poor run of form at Manchester United
It is safe to say that you can never count Ronaldo out, in any game of football. He has scored and scored for years to the point where it is second nature for him.
In many ways, the World Cup and being with the Portugal national team can be relaxing for Ronaldo, after what he has been going through at Manchester United lately and could help him rediscover his form. Portugal have been placed in a decent group with Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea.
One thing that a lot of fans seem to be overlooking is the fact that even without Ronaldo, Portugal have a stellar team and they have to be considered as one of the big contenders for the World Cup this time around.
