Marcelo is an absolute Real Madrid legend. Having joined the club back in 2007 from Fluminense as a teenager, he would go on to spend more than 15 years at Santiago Bernabeu. During that period of time, he won numerous titles and is considered as one of the best left-backs in the history of the game and for good reason.

Marcelo would finally bring an end to his Real Madrid career though, and he got his fairy tale ending, by winning the Champions League in his very last match with the club.

Still just 34 years of age though, the Brazilian was not ready to walk away from the game altogether and instead ended up joining Greek giants Olympiacos. He was given a hero’s welcome there but since then, things seem to have gone sour.

As reported by SPORT, the Greek press is reporting that Olympiacos is now seeking a way to terminate Marcelo’s contract. They question his physical condition.

Real Madrid legend could have his contract terminated

Fitness had become an issue for Marcelo at Real Madrid as well, and he did not play a lot of football over the last three or four seasons. And his numbers since joining Olympiacos has been very low.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Marcelo has made 5 appearances for Olympiacos till now and played just 121 minutes of football in title. He is yet to score or assist for the Greek club and has not even started a game for them yet.

It is safe to say that this is not what Olympiacos would have been hoping for when they signed Marcelo in the summer.

Now, it remains to be seen if Marcelo stays at the club for much longer or not. It is sad to see his career go this route though. One of the most talented full-backs in the history of the game, it does not look like he has a lot of football left in the tank.
