Real Madrid seem to be using the World Cup as a big scouting mission, and have been linked with a number of players in recent times. This should come as a surprise though, as the club have a history of signing the best performers from football’s biggest tournament immediately afterwards.

They did so with Ronaldo in 2002, Fabio Cannavaro in 2006, Mesut Ozil in 2010, Toni Kroos in 2014 and Thibaut Courtois in 2018. It remains to be seen if they end up making a glamourous signing this time around as well.

But at the same time, they seem to be keeping their eyes on all sorts of opportunities. As we know, the club have moved away from their Galactico-style signings in recent years and have been much more pragmatic in their approach to the transfer market, which has served them well so far.

As reported by SPORT, Takefusa Kubo is on the radar of Real Madrid at the World Cup. The player has moved to Real Sociedad but Los Blancos do have a buyback option included in the deal.

Kubo has spent time both at Barcelona and Real Madrid, and has been very highly rated for years. Yet, he has not managed to break through and take that next step in his career.

He is still just 21 years of age though and has plenty of time on his side to develop into the player that he was expected to be while coming through the youth ranks.

He will be representing Japan at the World Cup this time around and it looks like Real Madrid will be keeping a close eye on his performances in Qatar.

One has to remember that the club are believed to have a buyback clause included in his deal and they have a history of using them when the situation calls for it.
