Real Madrid need to refresh their forward line in the near future. Karim Benzema is set to turn 35 years of age and has struggled with one injury after another this season. But Los Blancos do not have any real back up for the Frenchman. Mariano Diaz has failed to impress and is expected to leave at the end of the campaign. Rodrygo has been converted into a forward, but the Brazilian is not ready to lead the line on his own yet.

Thus, Real Madrid could do with another source of goals and one player that they have been linked with in recent months is Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku showed just what he is capable of, when RB Leipzig met Real Madrid in the Champions League, and were the first team to defeat Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, with the Frenchman on the scoresheet.

But it looks like Real Madrid’s hopes of signing the RB Leipzig star are as good as over. As reported by 90min, Chelsea are putting the final touches on a deal to sign Nkunku. He will join the Blues next summer.

Real Madrid transfer target is set to join Chelsea

Nkunku has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga in recent years. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 17 goals and provided 4 assists in 23 appearances this season. His 2021/22 campaign was tremendous as well as he crossed the 30-goal and 20-assist mark.

It is not just against Bundesliga opposition that he is performing either. Nkunku has scored against teams like Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

He was expected to play a key part for France at the World Cup as well but was forced to pull out of the tournament due to an injury suffered while training with the national team.

Thus, signing someone of his quality would have been considered as a major coup on the part of Real Madrid. But it looks like Nkunku is destined to join Chelsea.
