Pedri is one of the best players in La Liga right now. There is no doubt about it. And even Real Madrid fans would admit to that, even if the Spaniard plays for Barcelona. He is currently with the Spanish squad at the World Cup, as he aims to help crown the national team as the champions of the world for the second time in their history.

For now, the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid is on hold, as players from both clubs work towards the same goal.

Marco Asensio is a Real Madrid player who seems to have a big role to play in Luis Enrique’s Spanish team and he started his World Cup campaign in the right manner, with a goal against Costa Rica, as the team registered a 7-0 win.

Asensio’s long-term future at Real Madrid is up in the air though. His current deal runs out at the end of this season and he has been linked with several clubs already. Interestingly, one such club is Barcelona. And it looks like Pedri is very open to the prospect of his national teammate moving to Camp Nou.

As reported by COPE, Pedri said regarding the matter:

"“He has a lot of quality, let’s see what happens with his contract but all good players have to be at Barça. Let’s see what happens with his contract but he has plenty of qualities. It is a decision that he has to make.”"

At one point of time, it was looking almost certain that Asensio was on his way out. That has changed in recent times though, as his role in the Real Madrid team has grown.

Now, there are rumours that the club are ready to extend his contract and he could be in line for increased playing time in the second half of the season as well. Let’s see what the future holds from here.

With the manner in which Asensio is playing, it might be the right step to hand him a new deal though. While he might not be a starter, he is certainly good enough to have a role in the team.
