Real Madrid have a long history of signing some of the best performers from the World Cup and the fans would be hoping that that tradition will continue after the ongoing tournament as well. There have been suggestions that the club have their eyes on a number of players, who are currently representing their national teams.

One player has been linked with Real Madrid in recent times is Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman has caught the eye at the World Cup, having scored in both of the Netherlands’ games till now. But it looks like Manchester United have moved ahead in the race to sign him.

As reported by Football Insider, Manchester United have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with Gakpo.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for the Dutchman in the summer although it did not happen, and they ended up signing Antony from Ajax instead. But the club have remained in contact with Gakpo’s camp and are still working on a deal. And it is believed that the Red Devils have an ‘agreement in principle’ with the player.

Gakpo has been in sensational form for both club and country in recent times and it is actually surprising that no top club has signed him already.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions for PSV Eindhoven this season.

Gakpo has every attribute that one could ask from a player and he seems destined to be one of the best in the world one day, if he gets the right opportunity. That should come soon enough and it does not feel like he will remain at PSV Eindhoven for much longer after the World Cup.
