Rumours had broken out earlier that Karim Benzema had almost recovered from his injury and could potentially make a return to France’s squad to take part in the World Cup. The Real Madrid superstar had suffered a blow while training ahead of the tournament and ruled out as a result of it.

Interestingly though, France did not end up bringing in a replacement for him, which means that he could technically return to the squad if he was fit enough.

That had raised hopes that Benzema was going to return to the French squad and take part in the knockout rounds. That would have been a stunning turn of events to say the least. Now though, it looks like there is another twist in the tale.

As reported by RMC Sport, Benzema is not fit enough at the moment to play again, and therefore join up with the French squad. The striker will return to training this Thursday in Madrid, but away from his teammates, as he continues his recovery.

Another twist in the Benzema-World Cup tale as Real Madrid star was rumoured to make a stunning return

It goes without saying that Benzema would not have left the French national team’s World Cup camp, if he had suffered an injury that he would recover from in just over a week.

It is surely a more serious problem than that which led him to pulling out. But if France do end up making a deep run in the tournament, then there is a chance that he could be fit enough to play by then.

Then though, there would be question marks over whether the French national team should bring him back into the fold considering the fact that they have made a deep run into the World Cup without him.

So, all things considered, it would be a surprise if Benzema ended up playing in this World Cup. Never say never though.
