Real Madrid have set their eyes on a number of players in recent times. One of them is Jude Bellingham. The Borussia Dortmund youngster has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world at just 19 years of age. Not only has he proven himself in the Bundesliga but in the Champions League as well as the England national team.

Thus, it is not hard to understand why Real Madrid might be after Bellingham. They are not the only ones in the race to sign him though and the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked as well. On top of that, it might take a transfer fee north of €100 million in order to sign him.

As a result, it is important for Real Madrid to have alternative targets as well, and it appears that one of them is rising Argentine midfielder, Enzo Fernandez.

As reported by Marca, Real Madrid are examining Fernandez in detail. He is a player that they have followed since his time in Argentina.

Fernandez joined Benfica just last summer from River Plate for a transfer fee believed to be around €12 million.

It has not taken him long to establish himself as one of the brightest midfield talents in Europe though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in 24 appearances for Benfica this season.

He got the spotlight on him as well, after scoring in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Mexico at the World Cup.

Still just 21 years of age, Fernandez looks like a tremendous prospect as well and if Real Madrid fail to sign Bellingham, he could be an exceptional alternative option to go after. At the same time though, with how quickly his star has risen, Benfica are expected to look for a big transfer fee in order to let him leave.
