Kylian Mbappe is a player that Real Madrid have been linked with for a long time, and the expectation was that that interest was gonna reach its culmination in the summer of 2022, with Los Blancos signing the Frenchman when his contract with PSG ran out. All the signs seemed to have been pointing in that direction, to the point that he was applauded by the fans at Santiago Bernabeu last season.
There was a twist in the tale though, as Mbappe ended up signing a bumper contract extension with PSG instead and remained in the French capital.
That left a bitter taste in the mouths of a lot of fans, who did not want to see Mbappe being associated with the club in the future ever again. Some rumours had even suggested that Real Madrid were not going go after the Frenchman again, after how the transfer saga had unfolded. Yet now, it looks like a move is not completely off the table.
As reported by The Athletic (via GOAL), Real Madrid haven’t given up on their ambition to sign Mbappe.
Surprising Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer update emerges
Thus, it looks like Real Madrid are still open to the idea of making a move for Mbappe if the opportunity presented itself.
The Frenchman has continued to play at a very level for both club and country, and is shining for the national team at the World Cup right now despite the fact that they have several key players out injured, including Ballon d’Or winner and Real Madrid superstar, Karim Benzema.
If Real Madrid ever ended up signing Mbappe, one would expect the move to be a grand success. Amidst this, there are also rumours that the French World Cup winner will look to leave PSG in the near future, despite having signed an extension with them just this year.
