While the World Cup is in full flow, Real Madrid continue to be linked with one player after another, even though suggestions have been that the club do not plan to make additions in January. Thus, it looks like Los Blancos might already be laying down the foundations for the next summer transfer window, which could be a big one for them, with the number of big names that they are rumoured to be interested in.
One area that the club do need to bring in reinforcements in as soon as possible is striker. Karim Benzema is set to turn 35 years of age this month, and he has had his struggles with fitness problem throughout the course of the campaign. That has seen the Frenchman miss a number of games for Real Madrid as well as the World Cup for his national side.
On the other hand, Real Madrid do not have any proper cover for Benzema in that position, with Mariano Diaz rarely featuring and expected to depart Santiago Bernabeu when his contract expires at the end of this season.
Recently, the club were linked with a potential move for Harry Kane. But he is not the only big name Premier League striker that they seem to have their sights set on.
Real Madrid are interested in €100 million Liverpool star
As reported by Defensa Central (via GOAL), Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez ahead of a potential summer transfer, with Los Blancos looking to lay down a succession plan for Benzema.
Nunez just joined Liverpool in the summer from Benfica for a package believed to be worth €100 million with all add-ons included, in what was a club record move.
He has had his critics since then and Liverpool have not looked at their best this season, but even then, his numbers have been decent. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Nunez has 9 goals and provided 2 assists in 18 appearances.
