Arsenal find themselves at the top of the Premier League table and would surely be looking to continue their brilliant run of form in the second half of the season as well. The Gunners might need to bring in some reinforcements in January though, in order to make sure that they do not let this opportunity slip. And one of the players on their radar seems to be a Real Madrid star whose contract is set to run at the end of the season.

Not too long ago, it had looked like Marco Asensio’s Real Madrid exit was inevitable. He had even been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool in the summer, but a move did not materialise.

Since then, things have changed a bit for Asensio at Real Madrid though. While he is still not a starter for the club, he at least is getting more consistent minutes off the bench and there have been murmurs about a possible contract extension.

But as reported by CalcioMercatoWeb, Arsenal could come forward as early as January to bring him to England and Mikel Arteta wants him to wear the Gunners’ shirt right away. AC Milan and Juventus are also believed to be interested in the Spaniard.

It looks like there is plenty of interest in the signature of Asensio, even though he has not played a lot of football for Real Madrid in recent times.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has played 426 minutes of football this season for Real Madrid. Of his 15 appearances, only three have been starts.

Asensio has pretty much been stuck playing the role of an impact substitute at Real Madrid for quite some time now and never ended up fulfilling his potential.

There has been talk of a new contract but if the two parties are not able to agree to an extension, then it would make sense for Real Madrid to part ways with Asensio in January rather than see him leave for nothing next summer.
