The 2022 World Cup is turning out to be quite an exciting edition of the tournament contrary to worries leading up to the event. There have been plenty of upsets, underdog stories and edge of the seat action. And it is believed that Real Madrid are keeping a keen eye on proceedings in order to scout players, who they could potentially try to sign in the future.

Real Madrid have a history of signing top performers from the World Cup. Although, it must be mentioned that there are rumours that the club might not make an addition to their squad in January.

Even then, one player who must have caught the eye with his performances is Cody Gakpo of Netherlands, who has scored in all three games till now. The Dutch forward has been linked with clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the past.

But as reported by Defensa Central (via The Boot Room), Real Madrid are now in the mix as well and of all the players at the World Cup, Gakpo is the one who could convince Los Blancos to spend big money in January.

Gakpo currently plays for PSV Eindhoven but it does not feel like he will remain at the club for much longer.

He was been linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer itself before they ended up signing Antony.

Gakpo has been in terrific form for PSV and it is not hard to see why so many big European clubs are eyeing him. In fact, it is a bit of a surprise that he has not already gotten his big move but it is certainly coming in the near future, especially after his World Cup  displays for the Netherlands.
