Real Madrid star is considering international retirement
The World Cup group stages are coming to an end and the knockout rounds are set to commence soon. This has been an interesting tournament for sure, with shockers like Japan topping their group while Belgium and Germany were knocked out at the first hurdle itself. A lot of Real Madrid players must be delighted with how things have gone, while some others must be devastated.
One man who had a tournament to forget is Eden Hazard. He had barely played for Real Madrid this season leading up to the World Cup, but he kept his national team’s armband and was a starter.
His performances in the first two games left a lot to be desired though and Hazard was left on the bench for Belgium’s crucial final group game against Croatia. Not only that, but even with the Red Devils needing a goal badly, he was only brought on in the 87th minute. The match finished 0-0 and they were knocked out, bringing a sad end to their Golden Generation.
This might be the end of the Real Madrid star’s international career as well though. As reported by HLN, Hazard will still think about the future in the coming days, but there is a good chance that he will stop as a Red Devil after fourteen years.
Real Madrid star could be set to retire from international football after disastrous World Cup
It is safe to say that Hazard did not have the World Cup that he was hoping for. In many ways, this was his last chance to prove that he was still a world-class player.
Instead, the tournament ended up providing further proof that he is nowhere near the player that he was during his prime.
There is a reason that Real Madrid shattered their transfer record to sign Hazard from Chelsea, after being linked with him for so many years. The dream move to Santiago Bernabeu has turned out to be a nightmare for him though, as he has struggled with a series of injuries and now looks like a shell of the player that he once was.
