Netherlands have been one of the best teams in the World Cup. They were undefeated in the group stages and defeated USA by a 3-1 scoreline to book their place in the last 8 of the competition. And with Real Madrid believed to be keeping eye an on the tournament, some Dutch players surely must have caught their attention.

Their star performer at the World Cup till now has clearly been Cody Gakpo. He might not have scored against the USA but he did find the back of the net in all three of the group stage games.

He has not been in top form for just his country either, as he has been dazzling in PSV Eindhoven colours for quite some time as well. Thus, it does not feel like a big move is far away for the Dutch youngster.

He was already linked with Manchester United in the summer, before they ended up signing Antony, but are still believed to hold an interest in Gakpo. At the moment though, Real Madrid seem to have joined them in the race for the Dutchman. And as reported by the Evening Standard, Virgil van Dijk responded to the speculation and said:

"“Are Manchester United and Real Madrid on the same level? No disrespect, not at all.”"

It is safe to say that Gakpo is a top talent and is expected to have the biggest clubs on the planet circling around for his signature, especially after the World Cup campaign that he has had.

On the other hand, PSV are expected to ask for a transfer fee north of €50 million to let him go, although considering the way he is playing at the moment, that figure must be climbing higher with every passing game.

Let’s see what the future holds for Gakpo. Real Madrid fans would be hoping that it is at Santiago Bernabeu.
