Real Madrid will need to make additions up front soon, if not in January then next summer most definitely. The club have the current Ballon d’Or holder, Karim Benzema, but the Frenchman has struggled with fitness problems this season and not been in top form when he has managed to get onto the pitch, which is understandable considering he has not been able to get into any sort of rhythm.

Mariano Diaz is expected to be on his way out at the end of the season, with his contract running out, and does not seem to be in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans regardless. And all this has led to Rodrygo being deployed as a false nine.

The Brazilian has done a decent enough job in that role but it is quite clear that he is not ready to carry the goalscoring burden of a club like Real Madrid, like Karim Benzema did last season. Thus, the club need to make more additions up top.

One player that they have been heavily linked with in recent times is Rafael Leao, with Carlo Ancelotti believed to be a big fan of the Portuguese star. And there is some good news for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid handed major Leao transfer boost

As reported by AS, Leao dreams of following in the footsteps of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo. It remains to be seen if that leads him to the Santiago Bernabeu as well.

Leao played a key part in AC Milan’s league triumph last season and was named as the Serie A MVP for his contributions. Right now, he is featuring for the Portugal national team at the World Cup and has managed to get his name on the scoresheet for them during the group stage.

It remains to be seen if Real Madrid end up making a move for Leao in the future or not. They are not the only club believed to be interested in him, with the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea also being linked with a potential move.
