Real Madrid might have to make some moves in the near future. There are a number of players in the current squad, whose contracts are running out next summer and it is safe to say that Los Blancos would like to avoid them leaving on a free transfer if possible. In that regard, the January transfer window might very well be the last chance for them to make something happen.
One player whose current deal runs out at the end of this campaign is Nacho Fernandez and rumours have suggested that while Real Madrid are keen to keep him and have offered him an extension, the Spaniard is considering his future after seeing his game time decrease and could decide to depart soon.
That is not ideal for Real Madrid by any stretch of the imagination. While on the other hand, Inter Milan find themselves in a tight spot when it comes to the contract situation of Stefan de Vrij, who is also set to become a free agent at the end of the ongoing season.
As reported by CalcioMercatoWeb, both Real Madrid and Inter Milan have not found a way forward for possible extensions, and there is an idea of an exchange between the two players.
Real Madrid linked with possible swap deal for Inter Milan star
De Vrij is 30 years of age and the Dutch centre-back has been a bigger part of the first-team picture at Inter Milan this season, than Nacho has been at Real Madrid.
At the same time, Nacho is 32 years of age and in that sense, Los Blancos would be getting the better end of the deal, if anything did end up taking place.
But then, De Vrij would not have the experience of Spanish football and especially Real Madrid, that Nacho has, having come through the club’s youth system and never even having gone out on loan.
