Rafael Leao is someone Real Madrid have been heavily linked with in recent months. The club will need to add to their options up front sooner or later. Karim Benzema is set to turn 35 and is struggling with fitness issues. Mariano Diaz is expected to leave at the end of this season when his deal is up. And Rodrygo is not ready to take up the goalscoring burden of the team yet, even though he has been used as a false nine several times this season.

As a result, Leao is seen as someone who could potentially solve a lot of Real Madrid’s issues going forward. The Portuguese star has been in phenomenal form in recent times. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 7 goals and provided 9 assists in 20 appearances this season.

He played a key part in AC Milan’s league win last season after a gap of 11 years and was named as the Serie A MVP for his exploits. His current deal with the Italian giants runs out in the summer of 2024 though and he is yet to put pen to paper on an extension. Naturally, there have been exit rumours lurking around in the background.

As reported by SPORT, the only way for Real Madrid to sign Leao would be if he does not renew his contract with AC Milan and arrives on a free transfer in 2024.

Real Madrid have made Leao transfer decision

It is believed that it would take a transfer fee close to €100 million to sign Leao from AC Milan, a commitment that Real Madrid do not seem ready to make at this point of time.

The big target for Real Madrid at the moment seems to be Endrick and he has a €60 million release clause in his deal with Palmeiras, and Chelsea and PSG are also interested in him.

It is hard to see AC Milan letting Leao’s contract run down though. If he does not renew, it is much more likely that they would try to transfer him next summer, with clubs like Chelsea and Barcelona also being linked with him in recent months.
