Real Madrid have a number of players in their squad whose current deals run out at the end of this season. The club will be hoping that some of them end up staying while on the other hand, it might be best for all parties involved, if a few of them departed Santiago Bernabeu, as they do not seem to have a clear future in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
One such player is Mariano Diaz, who seems to be completely out of the Italian manager’s plans at the moment. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 5 appearances this season and played 25 minutes of football in total.
Four years on, it is safe to say that Mariano’s return to Real Madrid has proven to be a mistake and at the end of this campaign, he is expected to be on his way out of Santiago Bernabeu. Despite his struggles to get into the team in recent years, there does seem to be some interest in his signature though.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Lazio News 24), Lazio have contact with his agency, You First, which is the same as Luis Alberto. A move for Mariano would be more than feasible for the Serie A club, as the forward is free to agree a pre-contract agreement from January. And a move to Italy should be more than welcome to the player.
Lazio are interested in struggling Real Madrid forward
While it is forgotten by now following his years of struggles in the Royal White jersey, Mariano did have a stunning record during his stint at Lyon, which is what convinced Real Madrid to bring him back.
Also, he is still just 29 years of age and is in the middle of his physical prime as a footballer. Thus, it is not hard to see why a club like Lazio might be interested in a potential move.
Lazio have been doing well under the management of Maurizio Sarri and currently sit at 4th in the Serie A table. Last season, they had finished 5th. Thus, it might be an attractive destination for Mariano, when his deal at Real Madrid runs out.
