Two of the World Cup semi-finalists are set. We will find the other two soon as well. But as the biggest tournament in football is nearing its end, we are getting closer to club football once again, as well as the January transfer window. Thus, teams will be working hard on getting better next month. For Real Madrid, things are expected to be quiet in terms of incomings.
On the other hand though, there are some players who could potentially head for the exit door. And one of the players whose future is still not clear is Marco Asensio.
It is pretty clear that Asensio’s role in the team has grown in importance as the season has progressed. But the fact of the matter is that his contract runs out at the end of the campaign, and while there have been rumours about an extension, the Spaniard has not put pen to paper yet.
If Asensio did leave Real Madrid, there would be no lack of suitors for his signature. Arsenal, who were heavily linked with the Spaniard in the summer, appear to have dropped out of the race though.
Arsenal forced to drop interest in Real Madrid player after Gabriel Jesus injury
As reported by CalcioMercato, Jesus’ injury will change Arsenal’s plans for the winter transfer window. The discussions on Asensio and similar players will be postponed, at least for the moment.
Jesus joined Arsenal in the summer from Manchester City and has been one of their star performers, as they sit at the top of the Premier League table right now.
Jesus ended up suffering an injury while away with the Brazil national team at the World Cup though and has undergone surgery since then. It is still unclear when he will make his return, and Arsenal’s plans will surely depend on that.
On the other hand, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Asensio. While he does seem closer to an extension than an exit, neither option can be ruled out with certainty just yet.
