One of Real Madrid’s biggest strengths right now is their midfield. They have the perfect balance of youth and experience there. Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are bona fide legends of the club while Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga are expected to be Los Blancos’ future. Dani Ceballos has proven himself to be a good option to have in the mix as well.

Yet, Real Madrid might be in need of a bit of a reshuffle in the middle of the park in the near future. Modric is 37 years of age while rumours have suggested that Kroos is considering retirement at the end of the season. Ceballos’ current deal runs out at the end of this season and Camavinga has not developed at the rate that he was expected to, after an impressive debut season.

Yet, it looks like Real Madrid have turned down the opportunity to bring in a Manchester City veteran on a potential Bosman move next summer.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), intermediaries have offered several potential free agents to Real Madrid, including Ilkay Gundogan. But the Spanish giants have turned down the chance to sign the Manchester City midfielder.

Gundogan has been a key part of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side as they have dominated the Premier League in recent years.

His current deal runs out at the end of this season though, and the German midfielder is yet to agree a contract extension.

While there is no doubt about the quality of Gundogan, he just is not the profile of midfielder that Real Madrid are being linked with at the moment. Instead, it looks like the club have their eyes on the future and want to bring the likes of Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez to Santiago Bernabeu.
