Real Madrid’s deal for Endrick is considered to be only a matter of time now. Everything is believed to have been agreed verbally between all parties. It is going to be one of the biggest transfers in the history of the game, with the whole package believed to be reaching €72 million including add-ons and taxes.

The transfer saga to sign Endrick was quite something as well, with Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea, all seeming to be very interested in signing him and at one point or another, each of them seemed to be in the driving seat.

At the end of the day though, it was Real Madrid who came out on top. And that often happens, when Los Blancos really want to sign a player. On the other hand, some light has been shed on why Endrick did not end up joining Chelsea instead.

As reported by The Athletic (via Metro), Endrick and his family were impressed by Chelsea but felt that the Blues were ‘more hesitant in committing to financial terms’ with a large element of the deal set to be performance-related. It is also believed that changes made by the club’s new owner, Todd Boehly, to their recruitment department may have also been a factor.

Why Endrick turned down Chelsea and chose Real Madrid instead

Chelsea have been splashing out on signings since the change in ownership of the club. It has not led them anywhere of substance on the pitch though.

The club made the controversial decision to replace Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter just days after the summer transfer window closed and in hindsight, that might have been a big mistake on their part. Chelsea were on a losing streak before the World Cup break and are currently 8th in the Premier League table.

As a club, Real Madrid are in a much more stable position on the pitch right now than Chelsea. On top of that, they have shown an incredible ability to develop highly rated Brazilian wonderkids into superstars. Thus, the move to Santiago Bernabeu must have made a lot of sense for Endrick.
