Real Madrid have been linked with some of the most in-demand players in the world over the last few weeks and months. While they are not expected to make any signings in the January transfer window, next summer looks set to be a different story. And one of the players who they seem to be after is Enzo Fernandez of Benfica.

Fernandez is currently at the World Cup with the Argentina national team and he has shined over the course of the tournament. He started it as an option off the bench but has managed to establish himself as a bona fide starter already.

Suggestions have been that Real Madrid have followed him since his days at River Plate and his performances at Benfica since arriving in the summer must have solidified their interest further. But it looks like Liverpool have gotten ahead in the race to sign him.

As tweeted out by Diario AS, the Portuguese press assures that Fernandez already has a pre-agreement with Liverpool and we will have to see what Benfica, his current club, think about it.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Fernandez. It is safe to say that Benfica would demand a big transfer fee to let him go.

It was only in the recent summer transfer window that Benfica are believed to have signed Fernandez for a transfer fee believed to be around €12 million.

Fernandez could be a solid addition to Real Madrid’s midfield department. At 21 years of age, he is showing world-class ability already and can be one of the premier midfielders on the planet for the next decade to come. It must also be pointed out though that they have been linked with Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund as well.
