Club football has taken a back seat over the past month, as the World Cup has dominated the minds of the fans. We are already at the semi-finals stage of the competition though and it is not long before Real Madrid will be back in action once again, and there are some big games coming up in the second half of the campaign.

One such game will see Real Madrid feature against Liverpool in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, a repeat of last season’s final, which Los Blancos won by a 1-0 scoreline  thanks to a goal from Vinicius Jr.

Thus, it is safe to say that Jurgen Klopp’s side will be extra motivated to try and knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League this time around but it looks like they will be missing one of their most important players for at least one of the two legs, and potentially both.

As reported by MARCA, Luis Diaz’s knee injury is serious and he will be out for a minimum of three months.

With Sadio Mane leaving in the summer for Bayern Munich, Diaz is one of the most important players in the current Liverpool side. Thus, his injury is without a doubt a major blow for them.

The first leg between the two European giants will be played in February and there is pretty much no chance that Diaz will be back by then. There is a possibility that he could return in time for the second leg in mid-March but even that will be touch and go, and depends on his recovery going very smoothly.

It goes without saying that this is a major blow for Liverpool, who already had an uphill task against Real Madrid, a side that they have historically struggled against.
