Real Madrid receive brilliant Rafael Leao transfer boost
Rafael Leao is one of the top young talents in world football right now and it is no surprise that Real Madrid are one of the clubs who have been linked with him in recent times. The Portuguese forward starred at the World Cup as well and there is no doubt that someone like him would be a great addition to most clubs on the planet.
Leao played a key role as AC Milan ended an 11-year wait for a league title last season. He was named the Serie A MVP for his contributions.
He has made a bright start this season as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 7 goals and provided 9 assists in 20 appearances this season across all competitions.
But his long-term future might not lie at the Italian club. As tweeted out by Florian Plettenberg, at this stage Leao doesn’t want to extend his contract beyond 2024 and is not confident with the offer. Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid are interested.
Real Madrid handed boost in race to sign Leao from AC Milan
AC Milan are believed to be looking for a transfer fee around €150 million in order to part ways with Leao. It is hard to imagine Real Madrid, or any of the other clubs linked with the Portuguese star, would be willing to match that figure.
And if Leao does not end up extending his current deal with AC Milan, they will need to slash that asking price significantly because at the end of this ongoing campaign, he will only have a year left on his deal with the club.
It remains to be seen how things play out. Real Madrid won’t be making a move for Leao in January, but one cannot rule out a potential transfer next summer, if he is available for the right transfer fee.
