Real Madrid’s biggest problem at the moment might be their lack of depth in certain positions. Most of the media focus has been on striker, with Karim Benzema struggling with injuries. Other than the Frenchman, Los Blancos do not really have a genuine cover option there, with Mariano Diaz barely featuring. As a result, Carlo Ancelotti has had to convert Rodrygo into a false nine.

Fans will be hoping that Real Madrid bring in another striker soon. And while a move in January feels unlikely, next summer could be a busy window for the reigning European champions.

Another area of the pitch that might be in need of reinforcements though is left-back. Marcelo ended his long run at the club in the summer, while questions have been raised about Ferland Mendy’s future in the last few months. David Alaba has acted as the Frenchman’s cover, but he is also the club’s starting centre-back.

As reported by Relevo, Real Madrid have at least two great solutions there in the form of Fran Garcia and Miguel Gutierrez.

Real Madrid linked with two former players as potential solutions at left-back

Garcia left the club in the summer of 2021 to join Rayo Vallecano and he has been very impressive there, even putting up a Man of the Match performance against Real Madrid this season itself. He had come up through the club’s youth system but made only one senior appearance before leaving.

Gutierrez did feature a bit more but ultimately ended up leaving the club in the recent summer transfer window in order to join Girona. He has impressed since then as well.

Real Madrid are believed to have retained 50 per cent of the player rights of both of them. Garcia is 23 years of age while Gutierrez is 21, and either one of them could be a long-term solution for the club at left-back.
