Roy Keane pays beautiful tribute to Real Madrid legend

Another sensational World Cup campaign for Croatia came to an end, this time at the semi-final stage, as it was Argentina who booked their place in the final. They should hold their heads high though. Few people gave them a chance, even though they had made the final last time around. Luka Modric and company proved though, that 2018 was not a fluke and they are one of the best teams on the planet. The Real Madrid legend had a brilliant individual campaign once again.

Of course, Lionel Messi and Argentina will grab the headlines after making the final, but Modric deserves a lot of respect as well, as this is most probably his last World Cup.

Modric is 37 years of age now and in the twilight of his career. But he continues to produce world-class performances and did so at the World Cup.

When judging this Croatian national team, one has to look back and see how far they have come. In 2010, they did not even qualify for the World Cup. In 2014, they were knocked out from the group stages. But in 2018, they made the final and this time the semi-final. That is a sensational turnaround in such a short span of time and this is their Golden Generation in many ways.

As reported by Sports Joe, while speaking on ITV, Keane said about Modric:

"“Amazing.“What an amazing player.“Watched him at Spurs and, when he left, I thought, ‘He’s got a lot to do, this lad, going to Real Madrid’. But he’s gone up so many levels. I can’t believe it, honestly.“It’s brilliant to see it – his consistency, week-in, week-out, at international level. His calmness when you watch him on the ball. He’s one of those players you’d happily go pay to watch.”"

While forgotten now, but Modric did have a rough start at Real Madrid but he ultimately came into his own soon enough. And he has not dropped his performances ever since.

Modric is one of the best midfielders of all-time and arguably the very best of his generation. Not only has he won everything that there is to win at club level with Real Madrid, but he has taken the Croatian national team to new heights as well.

No matter which club you support, you cannot help but admire him. All we can do is tip our hat.
