Chelsea and Real Madrid appear to have had a number of common transfer targets in recent times. Both clubs were in the race to sign Endrick, before Los Blancos got a deal over the line for the Brazilian wonderkid and it has already been announced. The two clubs are believed to be in the running to sign Jude Bellingham and Josko Gvardiol as well.

Chelsea have managed to sign one of Gvardiol’s teammates, who was also linked with Real Madrid, in the form of Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku has been one of the top players in the Bundesliga in recent years and would be considered as a major signing for most clubs on the planet. Real Madrid were rumoured to hold an interest in the Frenchman as well, with the club needing some reinforcements up top. But now, it looks like Chelsea have won the race.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, the deal is signed and sealed. All documents and contracts are also signed and it’s 100% closed. Nkunku can be considered a Chelsea player starting from July 2023.

Nkunku was expected to be a key part of the French national team’s World Cup squad but suffered an injury in training just before the tournament, which ruled him out of it.

That has not stopped Chelsea from getting a deal done for him early though and it is a statement of intent from the Blues to say the least.

On the other hand, Real Madrid will need to strengthen their options up top sooner or later, with the club not having much cover for Karim Benzema, who has struggled badly with injuries in recent times. Someone like Nkunku could have been a very good signing but it was not to be. Let’s see who the club try to sign instead.
