Argentina will be taking on France in the World Cup final. It goes without saying that it is one of the biggest games ever. The South American nation will be hoping to end a 36-year wait for a world crown, while Les Bleus are looking to defend their title after having won it in 2018 as well. When it comes to French players, it looks like Lionel Messi has a great admiration for two, both of whom are Real Madrid legends.

As reported by L’Equipe (via Le10 Sport), Karim Benzema and Zinedine Zidane would be the two French players most appreciated by Messi.

Of course, Zidane is one of the greatest players in the history of the game and he spent a good portion of his career at Real Madrid, and achieved some of his biggest success in the Royal White jersey. He has gone down as one of the all-time greats. Since then, he has created history as the manager of the club as well.

Benzema has not always gotten that credit, working tirelessly in the shadows for years. He has become the centre-piece of Real Madrid since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in 2018 though and it is safe to say that the Frenchman has delivered, even winning the Ballon d’Or for his performances in the 2021/22 season as he helped Los Blancos to a Champions League and La Liga double.

Messi admires two Real Madrid legends

It goes without saying that Zidane and Benzema are both Real Madrid legends, and two of the best French players in history.

Benzema was supposed to be a key part of the French national team at this World Cup but ended up suffering an injury in training. He is still part of the 26-man squad though.

On the other hand, Argentina and Messi will be looking to exorcise the ghost of the 2014 World Cup final and win the biggest prize in football.
