Real Madrid have been linked with a number of the brightest young stars in football recently. The club have already agreed a deal with Palmeiras to sign Endrick, who will arrive in the summer of 2024. At the same time, they are being linked with moves for the likes of Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez and Josko Gvardiol.
Thus, it is pretty clear what kind of profile Real Madrid are looking for when it comes to making potential signings. And another player who would fit into that vision is Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven.
The Dutch forward has been on top form for PSV for quite some now and had a breakout World Cup 2022, as he ended up scoring three goals for the Netherlands as they were able to reach the quarter-finals.
Manchester United had been linked with a move for Gakpo in the summer, before they ended up signing Antony. And while the Red Devils are still believed to be interested in the Dutchman, they look set to face competition for his signature from Real Madrid now.
Real Madrid preparing bid for Manchester United target
As reported by the Mirror, Real Madrid have stepped up their interest since Gakpo’s success at the World Cup and are preparing a bid.
Someone like Gakpo could be an excellent addition to the current Real Madrid squad, as they do not have much depth at the moment when it comes to the forward areas of the pitch.
Yet, it feels unlikely that the club will make a move for him in January, as most of the rumours coming out of Spain have suggested that Real Madrid want to continue this season with the squad that they already have.
That might open a window of opportunity for the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United and others to make their move in January and get a deal over the line.
