It was a thrilling end to a fantastic World Cup. Argentina and France played out a 3-3 draw and the final was decided on penalties, with the South American giants ending a 36-year wait for the global crown once again. And Carlo Ancelotti was impressed with one of their midfielders, who has also been linked with Real Madrid in recent times.
Enzo Fernandez is having the time of his life at the moment. It was just in the summer that he left River Plate to join Benfica. He shined for the Portuguese club and that earned him a place in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the World Cup.
Fernandez started the tournament as an option off the bench but impressed enough to the point where he has to be considered a nailed on starter moving forward. Not only did he win the World Cup but was also named the Young Player of the Tournament as well.
Ancelotti seems to have been impressed with what he saw from the youngster, giving mention to him when discussing Argentina’s World Cup triumph. As reported by Marca, the Real Madrid boss told the Rai Radio 1 show:
"“Argentina deserved to win and did so for two reasons: because they have good players and the best, and because they backed up this quality with newcomers like Julian Alvarez and Enzo Fernandez.”"

It is safe to say that Fernandez was one of the most impressive players at the World Cup. He was the engine room in the middle of the park for Argentina and a key to their success. The youngster even contributed in front of goal, with a stunning strike against Mexico.
Real Madrid appear to be looking to strengthen their midfield department, with the long-term futures of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos up in the air, while Dani Ceballos could be on his way out soon as well. Thus, it is not hard to see why they have been linked with Fernandez.
Benfica are believed to have signed Fernandez for a transfer fee around €12 million, but they surely will be looking for, if a club like Real Madrid tries to sign him.
