Just like that, another World Cup has come and gone. Ahead of the tournament, there were a lot of fears that this edition tournament might not turn out to be as much of a spectacle but as it turns out, there was nothing to be worried about. It was filled with twists and turns, and had a headline grabbing winner in Lionel Messi’s Argentina. For Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni though, it was a night to forget.

France had looked completely out of the game for the first 75 minutes, as Argentine had outplayed them quite comfortably. Tchouameni did not have his best game by any stretch of imagination.

The game came to life late on though, with France equalising thanks to a quick brace from Mbappe. Extra-time could not separate the two sides either, with it ending 3-3 and went to penalties.

It just goes on to show how important Tchouameni has become to this team, that he was handed the responsibility of taking one of the spot kicks. Things did not go according to plan though, as he ended up missing and eventually Argentina were crown champions of the world.

It goes without saying that it was a moment to forget for Tchouameni. But Real Madrid fans should not be worried about the long-term impacts of it.

Tchouameni has taken huge strides in this tournament. If N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba were fit, he might not even have been starting. But now, he has to be considered a nail on starter for Les Bleus.

The midfielder showed his qualities on both ends of the pitch and was one of the standout performers at the World Cup. He should hold his head high when leaving Qatar.

Also, Tchouameni does seem the type of character who will use this moment of failure as motivation to get even better in the future.
