Real Madrid have been linked with a number of talented youngsters in recent times, as it looks like Los Blancos will be targeting youth in the upcoming summer transfer window. In that regard, one of the names that has to be on the top of their list of targets has to be Enzo Fernandez, who won the World Cup with Argentina.
Fernandez was absolutely superb at the World Cup and played a key role in his national team’s triumph. His performances earned him the Young Player of the Tournament award as well, and it was well deserved.
Coming into the World Cup, Fernandez was not a starter for Argentina but his performances off the bench in the first couple of games, saw Lionel Scaloni put him in the starting XI and he held onto that spot till the end of the tournament.
It should come as no surprise that Real Madrid have been linked with Fernandez but some rumours had broken out that Liverpool had already agreed with the player regarding a move. But now, it does not look like that is the case after all.
Real Madrid handed Fernandez transfer boost
As tweeted out by Pedro Sepulveda, Fernandez has no agreement with Liverpool or any other club, and Benfica will only let him go in January if his release clause of €120 million is triggered:
It is hard to see Real Madrid making a move for Fernandez or any other key player in the January transfer window but next summer could be a different story.
Real Madrid have a spectacular midfield but at the same time, one cannot deny the fact that the long-term futures of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are unclear.
Modric is 37 years of age while rumours have suggested that Kroos is considering retiring at the end of the season. Thus, Real Madrid do need to prepare for the future and someone like Fernandez would be an excellent long-term addition to the club.
