Real Madrid have a long list of players whose current deals will be running out at the end of the season. Some are expected to get extensions and continue on playing in the Royal White jersey. A few others are expected to be headed out. And there are some, whose futures are well and truly up in the air and nothing is certain as of now.
It is safe to say that Dani Ceballos falls into that category. The midfielder is clearly not a starter for Real Madrid. Yet, he does seem to have a role to play in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Ceballos is yet to extend his contract with the club though, which runs out in the summer of 2023. It also means that he will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January. What is his current situation at Santiago Bernabeu though?
Some recent rumours had suggested that the midfielder was on his way out after this season. But as reported by Relevo, Real Madrid has not presented any offer to Ceballos, but its roadmap could vary, if he convinces in the matches after the World Cup. So, he will have the opportunity to carve out his future in the second half of the campaign.
Real Madrid midfielder could still be offered a new deal
Ceballos is not expected to establish himself as a starter for Real Madrid any time in the near future. At the same time, that does not mean that he should not be offered a new deal though.
On the contrary, he seems to be a good squad player to have around, who knows his role well and does a decent job when given minutes on the pitch.
At the same time, Luka Modric is 37 years of age while Toni Kroos is rumoured to be contemplating retiring after this season. Under these circumstances, it would not be ideal for Real Madrid to lose another midfielder.
