Barcelona remain interested in signing Real Madrid star

Real Madrid find themselves in a difficult position right now. Los Blancos already do not have a deep squad and we saw injuries and fatigue take its toll on Carlo Ancelotti’s team in the weeks leading up to the World Cup break. On top of that though, there are a number of players at the club, whose contracts are running out at the end of the season, and as a result, their options could be reduced further in the summer.

One such player is Marco Asensio. The Spaniard has been at Real Madrid for a long time and was expected to be a future superstar once upon a time, after his incredible breakthrough into the first-team.

Asensio has never taken the next step since then though and currently finds himself as an impact substitute at best in Ancelotti’s plans. Yet, that does not mean that there would be a lack of interest if or when he departs Santiago Bernabeu.

As reported by ara (via GOAL), Real Madrid’s Asensio continues to be on Barcelona’s radar as he nears contract expiry.

Barcelona have been linked with Asensio for a while now and it looks like that their interest has not cooled.

On the other hand, in the summer, Asensio was linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus and more. Thus, a move abroad cannot be ruled out at all.

But then, one cannot rule out the possibility of him staying at Real Madrid either. Asensio’s role in the team has grown since the start of the campaign, he was regularly featuring before the World Cup break, albeit off the bench. Thus, it is very possible that he could end up penning a new deal with Los Blancos and remain in the Spanish capital.
