There are some areas of the squad where Real Madrid need to strengthen. And one of them is definitely right-back. The club currently have Dani Carvajal as their starter. The Spaniard is a legend without a doubt but he is 30 years of age now and there are big question marks about his recent form. On the other hand, his back up option is Lucas Vazquez, who is a converted full-back and 31 years of age himself.
Alvaro Odriozola does have youth on his side but he does not seem to be in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans at all. He has not played a single minute of football this season and is expected to leave soon. Clubs like Juventus and AS Roma are believed to be interested.
As a result, Real Madrid could do with some reinforcements at right-back and one player that they have been linked with is Malo Gusto. He is 19 years of age but already starting regularly for Lyon. There are other clubs looking to sign the wonderkid as well though.
As reported by Media Foot, Manchester United are considering making a move for Gusto and are preparing a transfer bid of around €30 million. On the other hand, Lyon are listening to offers as there is only around 18 months left on the right-back’s current deal.
Manchester United preparing transfer bid for Real Madrid target
Manchester United find themselves in need of a right-back as well. Diogo Dalot has been playing well but on the other hand, Aaron Wan-Bissaka does not seem to be challenging for a starting place at the moment. Thus, it is not hard to see why they might be interested in bringing in someone like Gusto.
At the same time though, he has the potential to be a great signing for Real Madrid as well but Los Blancos are not expected to make any signings in January.
Let’s what the future holds but it looks like Real Madrid might be falling behind in the transfer race to sign Gusto from Lyon.
