Real Madrid’s midfield might need to undergo a bit of a transformation in the near future. Luka Modric is 37 years of age and even though he is still performing at a very high level, he has to be in the twilight of his career. On the other hand, Toni Kroos is rumoured to be considering retirement at the end of this season and although Los Blancos are believed to be keen for him to continue, it is unclear what he will decide.

Dani Ceballos is another midfielder who could be on his way out soon, with his current deal running out at the end of this season. And Eduardo Camavinga’s development has not gone as smoothly as one would have expected after a great debut campaign.

Thus, it should come as no surprise that Real Madrid have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent times. The names of Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez and Manuel Locatelli have been doing the rounds of the rumour mill. The club have been linked with another player for a while though and it is Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United.

As reported by ESPN, Real Madrid have maintained an interest in Guimaraes. But with Newcastle United under no financial pressure to offload any of their players, it is unlikely that they would considering letting the Brazilian midfielder leave.

Real Madrid maintain interest in Guimaraes but Newcastle United unlikely to let him leave

Guimaraes has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League ever since joining Newcastle United.

He was also a part of the Brazilian national team at the World Cup but was only able to make a couple of appearances off the bench, as the Selecao were knocked out from the quarter-finals by Croatia.

Someone like Guimaraes would be a solid addition for Real Madrid. But on one hand, a move seems unlikely. And on the other, he does not seem to be as good as some of the other midfielders being linked with the club.
