Federico Valverde: 8/10

Valverde played all three games for the Uruguay National Team with solid performances. He started all the matches but the team fell short and were knocked out in the group stages. However, the Real Madrid’s performances were consistent. The amount of offensive and defensive plays he made to help his team caught the spectators’ attention.

Ultimately, Valverde did not seem to have enough help from his teammates and at the same time, Uruguay were also unlucky to not make it to the knockout phases.

A noteworthy mention also goes to Valverde’s chemistry with Rodrigo Bentancur, as they switched positions in midfield to be helpful to their team.

Belgium National Team

Thibaut Courtois: 7/10

Eden Hazard: 5/10

The Belgian national football team featured Courtois and Hazard from Real Madrid. Although both the players featured in all the three games in the group stage, they could not prevent their national team from getting knocked out at the first hurdle.

It is safe to say Courtois is the future leader of the Belgian national football, as Hazard announced his retirement from international football after the World Cup. The Belgian goalkeeper kept two clean sheets and conceded two goals in his three matches. But at the same time, his performance against Morocco earned a lot of criticism.

Eden Hazard played in all three games, although he was only a substitute in the third one, and he failed to make an impact. His presence upfront did not help the Red Devils. On a brighter note, he did show some good ball-holding ability, but it only made sense for the him to retire from the national team, given his inconsistency in recent years.

In 2018, the Belgian was one of the best players at the World Cup. But in 2022, he was one of the most disappointing.
